In 1993 Hickory Ridge properties were discovered while looking for land to build a house on. The perspective buyer hired horses and set out to investigate the property. After a three hour horse ride he fell in love with the beauty of the land and was amazed at the abundance of wild life. He saw deer, wild turkeys, fox, hawks, bear, chipmunks and squirrels. At the end of the ride, a dream emerged. One that would allow him to share it with the public and yet protect all the naturalness of the property and the home to so many animals.  Therefore all new buildings would be contained in one small portion of the property and the remainder of the property would be kept in its natural state. All buildings would be kept in low level design and rustic design. All wires and pipes would be kept below ground. Hickory Ridge Resort, a small destination resort was now conceived.  A place where the city life can be left behind and enjoy the sounds and beauty of nature.
The land itself contains one hundred and fifty acres of hills, fields, woods and trails. there are several rock ridges on the property and many Hickory trees. Hence the name Hickory Ridge. There is approximately six miles of cross country trails existing which can be used for skiing, hiking, atv's, or horse back trail riding. On the purchase of the property there existed an a-frame restaurant, a 50' x 50' pole building and two very over grown ski slopes. At the end of 2005 over 20 buildings have be put in place, roads put in, over 3000 feet of underground utilities, A wind mill to provide water to the pond and  drinking water, three parking lots, a large septic system, a pond and water fall. This all encompasses seven businesses which are licensed. Unfortunately the owner/developer suffered  heart problems and couldn't open his dream to the public. Thus, " for sale."
As far as the animals go, we feed over 140 deer a day in the winter time who wait outside our back door in the mornings and evenings for us. In the summer a few does and only a few bucks come in. The moms bring up there fawns in the spring and throughout the summer. Our friends list of animals have somewhat increased over the years. Our back lawn is a patio of nature and a book of beauty. The list starts with our skunks, possums, raccoons, cats, bears, numerous chipmunks and squirrels, turtles, many wild birds, wood ducks, geese, wood peckers, not to mention our domestics. Alpacas, horses, geese, chickens and goats.
And they all eat well!
Well I've babbled on too much. We hope if you make this your home or business that you enjoy it as much as we have.
The brothers came to us as fawns
